A local Wispr Flow alternative for Windows

Wispr Flow is a good product. It made "hold a key and talk into any app" feel normal. It also transcribes your voice in the cloud, so it needs an internet connection, and its Pro plan costs $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly.

Impulse does the same core job without either of those. The speech model runs on your PC, and you pay once.

Where Wispr Flow is the better pick

Fair is fair. If you dictate on a Mac or a phone, Impulse is not an option yet. If you only dictate a little, Wispr's free plan may cover you. And if you are rolling dictation out to a team, Wispr sells team and enterprise plans; Impulse is a single-user licence for up to 3 of your own PCs.

Wispr also takes privacy seriously within a cloud design. It lets you control whether your dictation data is stored, and it says it keeps zero-data-retention agreements with its third-party AI providers. The difference is architectural: with Wispr your audio is processed on their servers under their policy. With Impulse it is never sent anywhere.
